Happy Earth Day 2012!
The forecast looks favourable for Sunday, which means it will be easy to get outside and get involved in Earth Day celebrations in your neighbourhood. Grab the kids, some friends, your folks or a date and head out to local Green festivities. Volunteer your time or money to the cause and spread the verdant vibe! You can even keep it social with an Earth Day Meetups and make a friend while showing your love for the environment!
The first Earth Day was celebrated in the U.S. in 1970. Canada joined in 1990 and ever since we have been raising environmental awareness, advocating
sustainable living and responsible use of resources. This weekend we all have the opportunity to join the festivities and contribute our voice, passion and talents to the cause. Click here to visit the Earth Day Canada website and locate events in your area.
If you’re interested in making a commitment to Green all year long, then head over to the David Suzuki Foundation website for tips on everything from energy-use, carbon foot-printing and eco-travel to sustainable eating and lifestyle choices.
We offer our own tips on water conservation, green-living rebate programs across Canada, thinking Green and saving paper, as well as looking for a ‘walkable’ home.

Our unique XCEED XTRAGREEN Mortgage™ offers borrowers a reduced interest rate towards the purchase of an energy-efficient home or condo; the refinance of a current home towards eco-upgrades; or refinance of debt acquired in the purchase of an electric or hybrid car or bicycle. Every time we close an XCEED XTRAGREEN Mortgage™ we donate $100 to Evergreen Canada.
Evergreen Canada will be sponsoring some Earth Day events, too. Check out all the ways you can get involved here and look for other volunteer opportunities here. This XCEEDer helps out at the Urban Orchard in Vancouver and not only have I met some great people, but I have learned how to plant and care for apple trees! (Now if only they could teach me how to bake a pie, I’d be in business!)
The Evergreen Canada website is a great resource if you’re wondering what activities are going on in your Canadian community. Get out. Get involved. Group efforts like these are the future of community development, improvement and prosperity.
